HP Mini 110, hp mini 1000 and mini 2133

March 10th, 2010

Do you hear the hp mini 110, hp mini 1000 and mini 2133? HP’s newest netbook is an economy-class version of the company’s popular Mini 1000 line. The Mini 110 has several improvements compared to previous HP netbooks including larger drive capacities, improved graphics performance and more color options.

The big difference between the new model and its predecessors is a couple hundred bucks. The hardware hasn’t changed much: The Mini 110 carries the same CPU, the same RAM config, the same hard drive, the same awesomely large 92-percent keyboard–even the same crummy mouse button layout that’s been driving me bonkers since HP introduced it on the HP Mini 2133. The new model also comes loaded with a three-cell battery–as did the Mini 1000, which lasted only 2 hours, 47 minutes on a charge.

The Mini 110 has a 10.1″ LED anti-glare display, which I hope makes it usable outdoors.

A 160GB hard drive will be standard with the XP version. A 250GB will be available in slightly more expensive models. There’s a single DIMM slot loaded with 1GB of RAM, which is the maximum officially supported by HP, but users will be able to upgrade to 2GB.

The Mini 110 has more ports compared to the Mini 1000, including three USB ports and a VGA port.

Dell inspiron 1545 Reviews

March 2nd, 2010

Wherever possible, it’s interesting to test the whole process of ordering a laptop from a company, and looking at the before- and after-sales support as well as the machine itself. So that’s just what we did with this Dell 1545, a smart, relatively economical machine that opts for trademark Dell efficiency over outright excellence.
Dell’s Inspiron 1545 is one of the most searched-for laptops on the internet. It’s easy to see why it’s so popular.
It boasts a whopping 15.4″ 16:9 widescreen display, as well as a DVD writer and a Celeron Processor.
Not to mention a multi-million pound television advertising campaign.
And yet you can buy the most basic model for under £350. That’s the same price as your average netbook.
Entering the market at such a low price is an interesting move from Dell, one which puts them in the same bracket as budget laptops manufacturers Emachines and Medion.

Features CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T5800
Databus Speed 800
HDD Capacity (GB) 250
Installed Cache Memory (MB) 2
Installed RAM (MB) 3072
No. of USB Ports 3
Processor Speed (GHz) 2
RAM Type DDR2
Weight (kg) 2.7
Battery Life 2
Laptop Display Size 15.4

It’s a comfortable computer to use, and it’d be interesting to see it installed with Windows 7 rather than the Windows Vista Home Edition that Dell is currently including in such systems by default. Vista does the 1545 few favours, sadly.
But still, this is a fine machine at a solid price. A front runner it isn’t, but this is a laptop potentially primed to give you a good few years of service. The after-sales service is encouraging, too.
Dell - Inspiron 1545 features - Verdict
A professionally manufactured laptop that delivers pretty much what you need for the price being asked. It’s no market leader, but it’s a very solid performer.

Lenovo thinkpad T61 14.1 widescreen

May 31st, 2009

The first ThinkPad notebook to offer widescreen displays and Intel? Core? Duo processor technology, the ThinkPad T61 gained critical adoration and a loyal fan base by offering a wealth of technology in a sleek, mobile, business-class package. In addition to its integrated camera, smart card reader and media card reader options, the T61 boasted an improved roll-cage design, advancing the same technology used to protect airplanes and Formula One race cars. The T61p offered even greater performance with an NVIDIA? Quadro? professional graphics processor and a premium 1920×1200 WUXGA display for workstation-quality computing in a mobile PC.

lenovo-thinkpad-t61
Like the Lenovo R61, the T61 features a wide-screen display, which is fast becoming the norm, even in business-minded laptops. The chassis itself has been reinforced with a new internal roll cage, replacing the traditional solid magnesium alloy cover. The slightly concave roll cage, hidden under a composite cover, protects the LCD, while helping Wi-Fi reception, which Lenovo claims can be negatively affected by an old-fashioned full magnesium alloy cover.

The batteries have 2 choices, 6Cell and 9Cell. You can select one replacement battery according to your need.

Dell Latitude D820 Review

May 5th, 2009

How about the Dell latitude d820? Look the following reviews about it and make you have gained some understanding.

The Dell Latitude D820 is a portable desktop-replacement notebook capable of strengthening any workforce. It has a roomy widescreen and options for either Verizon EV-DO or Cingular HSDPA, and is an all-around great piece of hardware for both the deskbound and the occasional traveler.

Features Overview

One Latitude D820 was configured with the following major options:

Core Duo T2400 CPU @ 1.83 GHz, 667MHz front side bus, 2MB L2 cache
15.4″ WSXGA+ (1680×1050) display

NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120 graphics solution with 512MB TurboCache
60GB hard disk @ 7200RPM

6-Cell/56 WHr Primary Battery
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
3-year Economy Plan warranty
Weight: 6.17lbs
Dimensions 1.39 in (H) x 14.21 in (W) 10.34 in (D)

Reason for Buying

Soon after I began my research for a notebook computer, I came to the conclusion that I wanted a business-oriented machine. Since this laptop was going to have to last me through at least four years of college, it needed to be able to take a beating. I was also attracted to the clean lines and underplayed looks of the business machines (I was put off by the white bumpers and garish silver that clad Dell’s Inspiron line). I was interested in only the 14″ or 15″ screens in either widescreen or regular aspect ratios. Additionally, I wanted some sort of dedicated graphics solution to be Windows Vista-ready, run engineering and CAD applications in college, and do a little light gaming. I narrowed my selection down to three offerings: IBM/Lenovo (ThinkPad T60), HP (nc8xxx), and Dell (Latitude D620/Latitude D820).

Shopping Experience

When we purchased my machine, Dell was having a sale which involved a $350 instant rebate on all Latitudes, sweetening the deal some more. I configured the machine on the Dell Small Business website. Almost every component of the machine was highly configurable, something that IBM/Lenovo and HP could learn from, and the online shopping experience was, overall, very pleasant. After having pulled the trigger, I realized that I did not select the option for the Bluetooth card. I called up Dell Small Business and asked them to add the card. It was too late to modify my original order but the associate was very helpful. Though the sale price was no longer in effect for the new order, she let me add the discount retroactively. The wait times to speak to an agent were negligible (definitely not the case with my past experiences with Dell Home) and the agent herself was polite and helpful. The total price for my D820 (after adding the Bluetooth card) came to $1496.25, which I felt was a good deal, especially since the Latitude line rarely goes on sale.

Battery

I ordered the D820 with the standard 6-cell battery. The 9-cell battery was optional for an additional $20 but I didn’t think the added weight was worth it. The battery takes about two hours to charge absolutely fully (though the meter reaches 100% before that time). Dell touts something they call ExpressCharge which optimizes the time to charge the battery. This lets you charge the battery to 80% in only one hour for time-critical situations. Running a stress test which maxes out the CPU, GPU, and screen brightness, I measured a battery life of 2 hours and 14 minutes. This represents the absolute lower limit. Under normal usage like word processing, web browsing, and a little light movie-watching you can expect times of about 4 hours or possibly even longer. The battery features a thoughtful external indicator that consists of five LEDs to indicate the approximate charge of the pack. This allows you to determine how much battery you have left without booting the notebook.

I only select some important points here, if you want to understand more, you can visit this. (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=2994&review=Dell+Latitude+D820)

Extending Your Laptop Battery Life

April 19th, 2009

If you’re always on the move, your laptop’s power will have to depend on the battery. To make sure that your laptop battery life will extend for years, you’ll have to take good care of it. Whenever you use different programs for your laptop, you’ll also be using up a lot of RAM, which ultimately needs a lot more power to work faster, thus producing more heat, and thus having to use up more power to counter that heat. Don’t get caught up in the never-ending cycle.

4 tips to extend the life of your laptop battery
1. Power down all nonessential functions
2. Stay out of extreme temperatures.
3. Let your laptop do the saving.
4. Always, always carry a spare device that uses batteries.

Extending your laptop battery life requires that you take good care of your batteries so it won’t get worn off quickly. Make sure that you drain your batteries once a month, and use it at least once a week until it drains. If you have another laptop battery, keep it charged but store it for only one or two days before using it as the other one charges. Don’t keep your laptop plugged and charging when the battery is already full. Doing all these will not only be extending your laptop battery life, but will also make sure that you won’t be spending us much trying to get your computer fixed, or buying new laptop batteries.

If you are running Windows Vista and really need to save power, you can switch to the power saver option by clicking on the battery in the system tray and clicking the dot next to power saver.  This will dim the screen and reduce processor power to help reduce power usage.  Be sure to change this back to balanced (where we have the laptops set by default) or high performance when you are plugged in.

Dell XPS M1530 Review

April 6th, 2009

When Dell launched the XPS M1330 last June, you could almost hear the applause from all those who doubted the company could turn the XPS line into something luxurious.

The design of the Dell XPS M1530 is completely different. It is very thin and extremely elegant.  The base unit gets smaller at the front edge and appears even slimmer due to beveled flanks. Thin, sexy design; strong performance; includes media remote control and HDMI output.

Specifications:

15.4-inch WXGA (1280 x 800) CCFL glossy screen
“Crimson” red paint (also available in “Tuxedo” black or “Alpine” white)
2.2GHz Core 2 Duo T7500 processor, Santa Rosa chipset (up to 2.4GHz available)
2GB DDR2-667 SDRAM (up to 4GB DDR2 SDRAM available)
160GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD (32GB SSD drive available)
Slot-loading dual-layer DVD±RW drive
NVIDIA GeForce Go 8600M GT with 256MB GDDR3
WWAN option for Verizon
Ethernet, 802.11a/g/n (Intel 4965), Bluetooth option
Integrated 2.0 megapixel webcam
HDMI, VGA, S-Video, Firewire/1394, three USB 2.0 ports, integrated media reader (MS, SD, xD), fingerprint reader
Media Center remote located in ExpressCard slot
Windows Vista Home Premium
Dimensions (with 6-cell battery): 14.06″ x 10.34″ x 0.93″ - 1.38″
Weight starts at 5.9 pounds with 6-cell battery (6.29 pounds with 9-cell)
We first saw the new XPS design, when we reviewed the 13 inch Dell XPS M1330, which is a smaller version of the M1530. On the contrary, the Dell XPS M1730, a 17 inch DTR gaming notebook comes with a design completely different to its smaller competitors. It basically tries to attract attention by LED illumination.

Because the Dell XPS M1530 is considered a beginner’s gaming notebook, there are of course a number of configuration options available. Regarding processor, Dell offers 4 versions.  First of all, there is low-cost version, an Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 CPU with 1.5 GHz, a good configuration for beginners. If you focus on powerful gaming and application performance, you should, however, at least choose a T7250 CPU with 2.0 GHz. The price/performance ratio of the later is ideal. The T7500 and the T7700 with 2.2 respectively 2.4 GHz are even more powerful, but, also even more costly, e.g., the T7700 costs about 339,- EUR more than the T5250. Nonetheless, these Core 2 Duo processors guarantee first-class performance in any case.
The XPS M1530 is available with two battery options, and we tested both the 6-cell and 9-cell versions. While the 6-cell fits flush with the system and ran for 2 hours and 9 minutes on our DVD battery drain test, the 9-cell battery ran for 3 hours and 22 minutes on the same test. The 9-cell extended-life battery provides excellent battery life for the M1530. The catch is that the 9-cell battery is positively gigantic, raising the rear of the laptop from 1.5 inches to 2.2 inches, although it fortunately doesn’t extend past the back of the system. The weight goes from 5.9 to 6.4 pounds when you switch to the larger battery. One thing to mention is that with the 9-cell battery in you get an overall greater slope to the keyboard, we actually like this for ergonomics, it feels more comfortable for typing.
